Our 2002 TLS has suddenly started transmission probs. Slipping and bucking.
The D5 light flashes and the VSA lights steady as does the triangle with the exclamation point. The sport shift becomes inoperable. Mileage is 33,750. No previous probs of any sort, fluid clean and full. Normal operating temp. Turn off and restart , all resets except a check engine light. Drive a very little bit and it all repeats. When it fails it seems to have a failsafe mode...car is drivable at lower speeds sort of like it is maxed out in 3rd gear. Anyway I just thought I would let you all know. Any thoughts out there? I will post the outcome when the dealer lets me know. |

The 3rd gear clutch disintegrates and the pieces clog the fluid passages causing the transmission to misbehave. They have been known to slam into 2nd gear without warning at highway speeds. Be glad it didn't do that. Your dealer will replace the transmission for free. |

They are supposed to be doing that anyway (free loaner) whenever you bring
it in for warranty service - but make an appointment first so they know you are coming.
