All,
I just bought a 2004 TL with navi yesterday for $34695, plus tax and fees. The finance person tried to sell me extended warranty, tire insurance, appearance package, and service package. I declined all of them. The extended warranty extends to 7 years and 84000 miles. The cost was $2000. The tire insurance was $285 and I did not pay attention what it covers. The appearance package is to protect the paint, leather, and carpet from drying, fading, etc. It costs $1000 and is called "Perma Plate". The finance person claimed the paint on 2004 Acura TL is lead-free, hence prone to stains (bird droppings, tree sap, etc). The only way to protect it is by getting this package. Hard to believe. The service package was $485 and it covers all the service costs during the warranty period. My question to the group: is the appearance package worth getting? Is it important? Did I do the right thing by declining it. Of course, she claimed I can always buy it next week or soon as long as the car does not have any stains. Thanks for your advice. ram |

Every article I've ever seen on the subject of dealer "packs" says they are a
waste of money. If you take reasonable care of the car, keep it clean and do the maintenance on time, there should be no need for any of the dealer-pushed (-shoved?) extras. |

Just took delivery, 2 weeks ago, on that same car for $33,300 at Montclair
Acura in New Jersey & I didn't take any of the extras "Ram Kunda" <ramkunda@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:cilBc.85909$Sw.61988@attbi_s51... > All, > > I just bought a 2004 TL with navi yesterday for $34695, > plus tax and fees. > |

I took the extended warrenty, but for 7/100,000. The only reason I did is
because I got it for $ 1515 instead of $ 1850 & they lowered the interest rate by .25 %. I kinda like the piece of mind after the initial warrenty runs out. It was worth it on my '95 Accord years ago & saved me about $ 250 on my '03 Odyssey a couple days ago. I agree that all the other add-ons are rip offs. Whose ever seen a stain on a car from bird droppings, anyway??? Little known fact: You don't need to actually buy the extended warranty until just before the manufacturer's warranty expires. Why give the insurance company a free loan of your money for 3 or 4 years while the manufacturer's warranty is in effect? Plus, you have that time to decide whether or not you really need to buy it. In the past few years, I bought an extended warranty on a Chevy at the last minute for $1,800 and made out like a bandit on it. I passed on an extended warranty on my wife's 1994 Miata, and I'm still not regretting it. Don't buy an extended warranty on a new car. You wouldn't do it on a VCR or a fridge. A new car is no different. Unless you want to get ripped off, that is. -- Dan Drake |

If you let it sit on the paint long enough -- actually, not very long -- it WILL stain the paint. I've had to use polish on several spots to get rid of the stain.. |

A. get the extended warranty later.
B. tire insurance on those 17s is not a bad investment. i went through 3@ $250 each in just over a year. potholes and a nail. C. appearance pack only if they do it routinely. if its a one time thing then why wouldn't all the cars have it from the factory? D. the service pack is a bargain. just oil changes alone makes it worth it. then if you get the extended warranty that could save thousands. just read the fine print "Ram Kunda" <ramkunda@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:cilBc.85909$Sw.61988@attbi_s51... > All, > > I just bought a 2004 TL with navi yesterday for $34695, > plus tax and fees. > > The finance person tried to sell me extended warranty, > tire insurance, appearance package, and service package. > I declined all of them. > > The extended warranty extends to 7 years and 84000 > miles.
