Default 2001 NaviSystem DVD Upgrade

My wife has a 2001 CL type S with a Navi System. She purchased the DVD
upgrade, 2.11C and it arrived a couple of weeks ago.

While we were out riding she entered our home address and the Navi
System responded that our house address was not in the data base for
Pembroke Pines, FL. This surprised us because the last two DVD
versions accepted our house address.

The Navi System said that our house number was too low. The database
had 9700 and above and our address is 9400. So I wondered if the DB
has us entered as living in Hollywood, FL.

We entered our street address as being in Hollywood and sure enough
the Navi System accepted it and took us home.

I reported this to our local Acura dealer and they contacted Acura
Tech support. The tech had the same problem we experienced, but he
knew why it happened.

This DVD update is organized by USPS Zip codes. I live in Pembroke
Pines, FL but my zip code, 33024, is a Hollywood Zip code. Folks
living in the western part of Pembroke Pines have Pembroke Pines Zip
code.

I wish there was a field to enter the zip code, instead of the city,
as this would make it easier for us to use the Navi System. With the
current way the data is organized, when I receive an error message, I
don't know if it is because the data really isn't in the data base or
if it is because the city shares a Zip code with some other city.

This will probably be the last update we buy for her Navi System. I
understand that the database is getting so large that it is easier to
organize by ZIP code but that doesn't help me as a user of the system.
The programmers have a nice neatly organized database that now creates
problems for its users.

Just wanted other NAVI System users to be aware of this problem, if
they aren't already aware of it.

Default Re: 2001 NaviSystem DVD Upgrade

There's something to that (entering by zip code) for other reasons as well.
I have several times been stumped when trying to enter a city in Texas
because it will list all the cities by the same name with the associated
county in parentheses. Texas has a fair number of these.

This is great if you already live there and know what county you are in, but
it becomes a trial and error process when trying to plot a route to a place
you are not familiar with - which is the main reason for the Nav in the
first place.
