Default RSX 2nd-3rd Grind

I'm looking at a 04 RSX base, I test drove it and found that if I was
driving hard it grinded from 2nd to 3rd. I've heard of this issue before
but everything I hear is just a 2nd gear grind. Anyone have this issue,
what are the fixes. I really like this car and would hate to buy it and
have this issue for the entire time I own it.

Double clutch it, especially when the engine is cold. It will take care of
the problem.

I think 2nd gear grind problem is in the Type S 6 speed, not the 5 speed
base. I have a Type S and have never had any problems. How much experience
do you have driving a manual? If the car is grinding on the test drive,
there must be a problem with that car. If you do buy the car, don't buy the
one you test drove.

I have the 2004 base 5 speed and there is no grind. Smooth as
silk, in fact! I love the car. However, I heard that the grind
was with the Type-S tranny, not the base.

Perhaps this was problem with this specific car. Try another car
and see. Whichever car you buy you should simply test it out.

I hope this helps

In a year of owning my RSX-S, I have never grinded any gear except third
twice (slightly)
because I thought it was in gear and it wasn't. This happened because third
needs a bit of
extra effort to fully complete the shift once in a while. It tightens up,
you think it's all the way
in gear and it isn't. Second gear on my car is notchy alot of the time, but
never has that tightness
feel third sometimes has.

Check out www.clubrsx.com and do a search in the forums for the grind.
ALot of RSX infomation on this site. It is a very common problem.

I have learned my lesson concerning 'warranty repair' on new cars and
will not bother getting my transmission looked at unless it's really bad.
Whenever I had work done before, albeit on GM cars, it was like getting
the car back in a 'violated' state where other problems were created by
their repairs. I will never forget trying to get a simple front end
knocking
sound fixed on a Sunfire which took over 8 months, 8 shop visits and
countless hours of my time. It was never completely fixed. I don't trust
mechanics with my car simply because it's not their car and they can be
inclined to be as neat or sloppy as they want.

The drive gears actually grind or are the syncros just really notchy
feeling when you change gears?
