I've got a 2001 CL-Type S with 63K miles on it. A few days ago the Check
Engine light came on. The car "seems" to be running fine, no noises though it is pulling a tad to the left. I'm planning on driving to Delaware this weekend from DC so I'll be putting some miles on the car but not a ton. I can't get in to see the dealer until Tuesday so should I be concerned? |

Once I was driving on a long trip. I stopped for gas, refilled, and headed back out on the highway. Soon after, the Check Engine light came on. I pulled over and read the owner's manual (hint hint). It mentioned the gas cap not being on properly and suggested I remove and reinstall the cap. It Worked! The other time my Check Engine light comes on is if I'm excessively using the engine as a brake. While driving downhill on slow, winding curves I sometimes put the transmission in a lower gear (2 or 3) and let the engine hold the car back (instead of the brakes). After a few minutes (5 or 10) of driving this way the Check Engine light illuminates. Shifting up to 3rd or 4th (1999 TL is a 4-speed) corrects this problem in a matter of a few minutes (1 or 2). Good Driving mikey. |
