Default Ignition System Trouble

Hi guys,
I have a '91 Integra, 175K. I recently replaced my distributor. Car was
running great for a couple days, then it stalled on me one night in the
driveway. I haven't been able to start it since. I've tried reajusting my
distributor for the correct timing. My fuel system is ok, the injectors
are working properly. When I try cranking it over, which it does just
fine, I can smell fuel and it back fires. It's just not getting spark. My
coil is new, ignitor new, rotor, ignition wires... everything is new. I've
never had problems with my ignition switch, so I'm thinking it may be the
main relay, however, when I turn the key to on, I can hear the fuel pump
start up and shut off. I've checked the main relay for cold solder and
cracks but it seems alright. Also, I'm going to be replacing the spark
plugs, but when it was running there was no lack of power or anything. It
just stalled now won't start. Any other ideas?

Thanks alot!!!
Trav

I've checked my spark plugs and found that I do have spark, cause with the
spark plug out on cylinder one and holding it next to the cylinder I seen
a spark and fuel ignited in my face. I do have spark, and fuel. But the
damn thing won't start. I'm going to try push starting it cause I can't
think of any other reason it wouldn't start. Ideas?

Thanks!

Could your timing belt have jumped a notch? Was it replaced in 1997
when it was due?

It sounds like the same thing that happened to my brother's 1989 Accord.
The ignition switch shorted and the car simply wouldn't start. A new
ignition switch took care of the problem.
Acura had a recall for premature ignition switch failure on the older TL's
('99)

How could you tell if it is the ignition switch. Would something not be
functioning properly besides the car not starting. All my electrical
components turn on with the key on accesories, and the fuel pump and
computer turn on when in the ignition position. Car cranks with spark and
fuel. What is the price on a new ignition switch?

Thanks guys,
Travis

How can I test the switch to see if it is alright before replacing it?
Thanks

I had one instance in which the engine would fire and fart a bit, but
refuse to run. The problem turned out to be an ECU ground on the
engine block near the thermostat. There were 3 wires from the ECU
that go to ground there (this was on a CRX but I understand it's
similar on many Hondas). Because of engine vibration you get some
really weird symptoms if that ground is loose.

Default Re: Spark Plug Removal

I removed the spark plugs to check the wear on them, they seem to be fine
and they spark sufficiently. However, with the spark plugs remove I tried
cranking over the engine to see the difference with absolutely no spark or
compression. There was a difference, but while cranking it I didn't see
anything shooting out of the cylinders. Last time I tried that I saw
small bursts of fuel shooting out, this time I didn't. Is there an
explenation for that? I'm clueless thinking it has something to do with
the car not starting, no?

Thanks again,
Trav
