Default 2004 TL review

Picked up my 04 TL. Very, very nice. Last ride was a 99' 540 BMW

1. Fit and finish. Well done.
2. Interior. Well done. Comfortable seats. Climate control is quiet.
More road noise then the BMW, but I expected that given the $ 30,000.00 cost
difference.
3. Navigation is awesome. Stereo is still under review. Lots of
controls. Overall volume is not as loud. But the quality of sound is very
good.
4. Brakes are good. I am leery having had a Honda years ago. The rotors
warped in the garage. Time will tell
5. Suspension is firm and nimble. Hard driving produces some diving and
dipping. The Beemer was more progressive on that matter. Steering is light
and quick
6. Engine is superb. Refined and smooth. Auto trans is very impressive.
I would have preferred real wheel drive. Gas mileage is good considering I
came from the BMW V-8.

Quality and value. I recently read a road test with the TL, Saab, Infinity
and 3-BMW. They ragged about the front wheel drive etc, etc. But the TL is
the biggest car of the 4. The 3 series Beemer is a big civic for 42K.
Little silly I thought. Same with the infinity, too small and I hatred the
"Pod" type dash display. The Saabs predicted reliability was a no-brainer,
and 42K with NO nav system was just plan stupid.

Best bang for the buck. No complaints as of yet. I will keep you posted.

That said, where is the best place for TL performance parts. I did opt for
the 18" wheels, but I would like to massage the engine and suspension al
little more. Thanks in advance for your help.

Default Re: 2004 TL review

interesting... the TL is a glorified Accord. not knocking TL, i get mine in
about 2 weeks, but it seems these days the auto-facturers are using the
"common-platform" to all new levels, and doing it well..

your road handling comments could have been dealt with if you would have
ordered up the sport suspension package that the dealers offer, then you
would be at the level of the bmw. if you want more control get a set of
bilsteins (if they have them). put them into my Tacoma and made a world of
difference...

and yes, front wheel drive only is somewhat a disappointing offer. i would
have liked to see the "S" come back which would give you, as standard, 6
speed manual rear drive, sport suspension, summer tires. while the non "S"
would come trans optional and front wheel drive only. that would be a great
offering...
