AutoShow in town, most makes represented, including Acura.
Took part of day off to visit when fewer people there ... Ford GT, Pontiac Solstice, Chevy BelAire, Dodge Magnum, new 6-series BMW, and the new 450HP NSX! Gotcha. I wish. Was trying out the TL versus the TSX for size and fitment when a gent came over with his missus, asking how many horses, etc. Told him 270, they both went "Ouch", and said they just bought a Nissan Maxima, and it only had 265 ... He looked at the price and went ouch again, saying he paid US$38K for his Maxima. I don't know how he managed to pay that much for a Maxima, and hope for his sake he didn't, but my God! I went on to mention all the lovelies that come standard on the TL, and their faces kinda drained of life ... Anyway, comparing the TSX to the BMW 325, and the TL to the 330, I just can't see the point of the BMWs. Rear-wheel drive, big whoop. For all intents and purposes, the bimmers just ain't worth the extra $5-10K one has to pay to get the blue and white propeller symbol over the calipers. Oh, but it was loverly seeing all that sheetmetal. And I must say that, for a big ol' honker American car, the new Chrysler 300C Hemi is nice. Maybe too nice, even if I like my cars around 180" long and about 3K lbs. -- Rick K |

300C is a nice domestic for 32k (around 36k fully loaded). i went to see one
at my local dealer. too big for my wife (hence we bought a TL). 300C will take some caddy sales away for 2004-2005. What an idiot, at $38K he's worrying about a lousy 5 HP difference?? LOL |

LOL They should be worrying about paying an additional $5K to have 5 less HP. As I said, my *real* question is how they managed to pay so much. How do you tart up a Maxima to the $38K level? Gold-plated floor mats? ADP? Maximum gullibility? 5 hp ain't gonna break the bank in any case. Just for fun, I spec'ed out a 2004 Maxima at kbb.com to see how much I could put into it: Nissan MAXIMA SL Sedan 4D Automatic = $35820 retail MSRP stuffed with everything available. TT&L couldn't make up a $2200 difference; more like $1400 max. BTW, anyone notice that Nissan sedans are named like modern prescription drugs? "My allergies kicked up, so I took Altima. Now I breathe easier." "My wife agreed I should send for a free sample of Maxima, for, you know, my problem ... our problem ...". "Take two Sentra in the morning, and you'll be gas-free all day. No more bloated feeling with new Sentra!" -- Rick K |

I'm guessing dealer pin stripes, dealer anti-corrosion, dealer added profit (sucker tax), extended warranty. I kind of prefer the Acura method of selling cars that already have all the good stuff standard. Obviously, Maxima-Guy has some third degree burns from the deal he got. I don't need to point out the location of the burned tissue... :-) Enjoy, Tim Wisner www.wisner.us |
