Default Acura TL Negotiation given shortage of TL

I am considering the 04 TL but there are none on the lot and dealer says I
have to order and maybe late May or June for delivery.

He also says MSRP is the price. There is a list of 25 people waiting to get
the car, does that mean the price is MSRP? Have any of you negotiated from
this position and gotten a lower price?

Last I checked (admittedly, a week or two ago) my dealer had several on
the lot. And every time I've driven by I've seen a few out front and
several out back. Maybe your dealer isn't trying hard enough. I suppose
it's possible all those are allocated, but I doubt it.

I'm in NE Oklahoma, FWIW.

I've seen people post messages saying they've gotten a couple thousand
off of MSRP recently, but I've seen many, many more claim they've had to
pay the full MSRP.

I think it depends on where you live. If your dealer really does have a
25 person waiting list, they'll likely get whatever they want for the
cars. They have no reason to sell it to you for less than someone else
is willing to pay, and there seems to be no shortage of people willing
to pay MSRP.

If you ask me, the car is worth every penny of MSRP. It's quite a
bargain at that price.

I have seen people claiming discounts on the TL. I just got the replacement
tires on my 2004 TL at the Acura dealer in Ventura, CA and they had no
TLs -- none. While I was waiting, two were received, one of those was
already sold and they said the other wouldn't last long. The salesman said
he doesn't believe anyone is discounting in Central/Southern California. I
believe him.

He also mentioned some other interesting things. The manual transmission
TLs are not selling well. They expected about a 7:1 ratio. He said the
actual ratio is more like 15:1. They are also selling many more navigation
systems than they expected. Nearly everyone wants the navigation system. I
bought one of the first ones (SN 1252) in October 2003 and I paid full
price.

The salesman said he had customers coming in saying they were getting
discounts at another dealer and trying to get them to match it. He didn't
and a week or so later, the same customers are back. So I believe that it
is wishful thinking more than fact -- at least in California.

many TL's available on lot and a few allocated throughout New York. they
sell for about 3k less than msrp. nav units seem not to be in any of the
on-lot cars.

i'm guessing less manuals because new TL is marketed as luxury sedan, they
don't have the TLsport anymore. i think they should have 2 models, TL and
TLsport where sport comes with manual trans and sport suspension (and
perhaps rear wheel drive), whereas TL come auto-stick with luxury suspension
and front wheel drive.
