Default 2004 Acura TL Fuel Mileage

I have about 4000 miles on my new 2004 TL and am still averaging only about
21 mpg with combined city and freeway driving. It's actually worse by about
2 mpg than my NSX! I swear I can see the fuel gauge go down when I
accelerate.

What mileage are others achieving?

Thanks,

- Russ in Santa Barbara

Yep. 1600 miles in VA and same stats. All highway, I've seen 34mpg in the
MID. Around town, it runs about 22. Mine is a 5AT using E-M premium fuel.
The car drains fuel from a full stop - best way to describe it, but it is
still in line with the EPA estimates.

With 800 miles on Auto 04 TL, so far average around town mixed driving,
21-23 mpg, highway 29 mpg. You really have to get over looking at the guage
on this one. About 10 minutes after you gas up guage is already moving off
full but this is apparently just the way the guage is. When you get around
1/4 tank gauge can sit there forever. Maxima was just the opposite. After
gassing would sit on full forever and then suddenly fall like there was a
leak or something. I just headed on a 2 hour drive highway. Guage sat
between 1/4 and 1/2 entire trip. Gassed up on return was off full 10 minutes
into trip.

Gas mpg doen the old fashioned way, gas used into mileage but trip mpg seems
fairly accurate.

I do mostly highway in my 04 TL. I am getting about 26 mpg. I am pretty
statisfied with that. If I wanted great gas mileage, I would have not
bought a 270hp 6cyl.

My TL (purchase used with 5000 miles) gets 22-24 around the city and 31
interstate travel. I am very please with that. I just had an oil change
and requested synthetic oil. I want only the best for my TL and I
thought that may also add to fuel efficiency. However, dealer could only
provide synthetic blend in recommended 5W-20.

Has anyone had experience related to the oil issue.
