Default 2003 TL-S Tires & Rims Question

I have been thinking of getting some better looking wheels and better
performing tires for my 2003 TL-S. I understand that it is an option
to get larger wheels and I guess a lower profile tire. How would I
find out the specifics about this (sizes, etc.) and how much of a
performance gain would I get versus using the same size tires and rims
that the car cam with?

Any input and opinions would be appreciated.

Try going to www.tirerack.com. They have some very good tools to
determine what your vehicle can handle for upsizing, winter
tires, etc.

If you put larger wheels with low profile tires on your car, be very careful
with selecting the wheels. You should know how much your stock wheels
weigh, if the larger wheels weigh more, you will slow the car down. With
heavier tires and wheels, the car will not accelerate as fast as it does
with the stock wheels and tires.

Generally, a "good" wheel will weigh less than a pound per inch, e.g. a 17"
wheel will weigh less than 17 lbs. Also, be aware that an extremely light
wheel, like the SSR Competitions may not be a good street wheel, depending
on the roads in your area. Ultra lightweight wheels are great on the track,
but on a street with potholes and 2X4's that fell out of a truck, you will
be replacing or repairing them much more than the stockers.

Thanks for the input. There is a lot more to choosing wheels and
tires than I suspected. I'm glad I asked.

OK,how did you manage to have an RSX-S since 2002, and only have 10K
miles on it?

I tend to ride my motorcycle more than drive the car. My 2002 Buell S3T has
18.3K miles on it. When I sold my Honda ST1100A motorcycle, it was less
than 5 years old and had 53K miles on it, at a time when I had three other
bikes!!

Also, this is the second RSX I have had, though the first one only had about
250 miles on it when I returned it.

hiya,
try these...

http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

factor in your wants and needs. then when you do a search for a TL type-S
forum, you might come across a gallery of TLs that have aftermarket wheels
on them...dont be surprised if logic is overcomed by desire!! then that may
wear off, and logic should return.

(slightly OT: a well documented TL project...
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/184466/1 )

from having 3 cars with plus sized wheels, I only noticed a difference in
ride quality...performance quality i noticed when I tweaked the suspension;
emphasizing just my observation...yours may vary. Yours having a long
wheelbase, your ride quality change may not be as noticeable as a car with a
shorter wheelbase.

your car should look cool with new wheels, I have yet come across a TL with
wheels...primarily bcs I'm immersed in Legends stuff right now (KA8)

hope that helps some...good luck
