Lease runs out in less than a year and I got bad ding on the trunk and
was wondering if anyone had experience with this when turning in their
lease car.

door dings are normal wear and tear, and will not cause you any problem when
you return your car at the end of the lease.

it depends on how large they are and how many.

It all depends on your leasing company. If you are not re-leasing from
them, you can expect to be charged for the ding. They rarely consider this
normal wear and tear.
Try having it repairs ( or at least partially fixed ) at a paintless repair
place if possible before returning the car.
