Hello, I am new to this group and want to purchase a new Acura RSX for my
wife. I was raised in a car dealer family and have no problem negotiating a deal but to what extent will an Acura dealer deal? Any hints/suggestions? Big time thanks in advance. martynstellaNOSPAM@hotmail.com remove the NOSPAM to reply |

I guess the best advice would be to find a dealer with a 2003 RSX still in
stock. With the 2004 model just out, it may be a bit difficult to get the price down much but shop around. In buying my RSX type-S, I found my Acura dealer to be like any other I've encountered and worked to make the sale. My next door neighbor wants to buy an MDX in May. I was excited for
them and wanted them to buy one sooner. I finally got them to agree that if I were able to find an MDX for a low price, they would buy one right now. FYI: they were looking for a silver on silver MDX with 4x4 touring accessory and a nav. system. That was all they wanted. They don't want any entertainment package or anything else. They said that if I were able to find one for $40k out the door, they would buy one right now. So, I looked and called around and also went to the local dealer which I frequent. No luck. No Acura dealer wants to sell much below list price. One dealer said that in the eight years he's been working there, the largest discount he's ever seen was only $1500. It was on a previous year model. If you are looking for a '04, you are not likely to get it much below LIST. Besides, One of the reasons that Acuras have such great resale value is that they DO sell for list. The other way to understand this: Acuras are selling very well. 04 RSX or 04 MDX's are hard to keep in stock. There is no reason or incentive to sell it to someone like me for a discount when they can get full list if they just wait a few days. Just my two pennies. Good luck in your negotiations. I love that part of car buying. Haggling and seeing what deals you can get. If you do find a way to get a discount, please come back to this NG and up-date us!. sincerley. Dr. Moser. By the way, I forgot to mention something:
I love buying used cars. I believe that if you have patience and know what to look for and have great people skills, you can find great cars in the used market. There are several sites on internet where you can do free searches. Case 'n point: I saw a Type-S RSX that is a 2002 with 36k miles and it is only $18k. THAT IS A TYPE-S!!! With 200 horses!!! The best bang for your buck will be in the 2 to three year old cars where the biggest depreciation has been taken care of and you still get a new car feel but without taking a large hit on the depreciation. My friends and I buy only used cars. Most recently, my buddy bought a black on black (with leather trim) Integra for $3000. I bought a 95 Prelude for $3200, as well as a 1991 Accord EX for NINE HUNDRED Dollars! Additionally, I helped another friend buy a 1998 Rav4 for only $5700. and most impressively: .. . . .Drum roll, please. . : Last night, we just went on a 250 mile round trip run to Richmond Va and bought a 1995 Legend GS (GS was the top of the line and only made for two years). This Black on Black 230 HP type II Six Speed only cost my friend, Aasif, $8700! What is my point? Well, if you like new cars, you can still get that new car feeling in a two or three year old car, but at a drastically better price. If you can tolerate even older cars (and since Acuras will run forever, no Acura is really ever too old. For example: Aasif's current 91 Legend LS has 312k and counting!), you can find 8 to 10 year old cars for an even better bargain! If you buy from private party and you have good people skills, you can really talk the price down. Furthermore, if you show up with cash, it pushes the threshold even further in your favor. For example, on the 95 Black Legend GS last night, we showed up with cash, which really sealed the deal. The original asking price from the seller was $10,000. However, because my bud and I carried ourselves well and we had the cash, the car became ours even though we offered $1300 below the asking price. We drove home that car for $8700. Car shopping can be really fun if you are into learning about people and interacting with other human-beings! I for one love getting the deals. In fact, owning the cars is not even as fun for me as buying that next car. This is why I always keep my ears open and jump at the chance to help my friends when they shop for cars. Sincerely. I paid list for my 1999 Acura 3.2TL. At that time in that area, I had to get on a waiting list for 4 months to buy the car. The only 3.2TL on the lot was the single test-drive unit. The '04 Acura MDX may be selling well, but why should I pay list price when the dealer has 9 of them (in addition to the tester) sitting on his lot? mikey. i think you might be missing half the point of a new car.
my big reason for new is warranty and maintenance. i was so tired of getting a used car and noticing every little quirk and scratch a week after i bought it. with a new car its 60k before you even need to look at it. any surprizes, let the dealer handle them. sure you can argue that you can have you mech look at it before you buy, but that just adds another element to an already bloated task. with many new acuras you get On-star, TLC, and the 4 yr warranty, also loaner cars for service. that kind of convenience and security is well worth it to me.
