Default RSX cold air intake for $30?

I have an '03 RSX base model that needs some additional pick-up. Awhile
back I posted here asking for suggestions, and a couple of you recommended a
cold air intake. I did some on-line browsing and found several places where
I could get a kit, most of which were $150 or more. Today on eBay, I saw a
couple of auctions for a Bomz short ram racing air intake for $30. Does
anyone here have experience with this type of air intake kit? On the
auction, the seller claims the item can increase HP by between 7-12 and
torque between 5-8. Any comments for me? At that price, it would be worth
it to see if it works, but I'd like to hear opinions first.

Thanks!

Short ram air intakes provide additional horsepower at high rpm, usually
at the expense of torque at low rpm, a very bad thing.

I suggest you spend the money on a good cold air intake, or better yet
the chip reprogram at hondata.com (which I have on my base, well worth
the money).

What am I looking for on the hondata Web site? I have an 03 RSX and I don't
see 03's or RSXs listed on their site anywhere. Am I missing something?

I bought a Bomz cold air intake for my 94 Integra GSR.It fit fine, works
great.Came with NO instructions, had to puzzle it out myself. At least you
may not have the complex resonator system to remove that the GSR has.

It noticeably increased power(and NOISE).I am very pleased with it.
I've had it since Sep 02.

Honda Tuning Magazine did an article on CAIs where they did flow bench and
dyno tests on an RSX-S and 2 well-known CAIs and a bunch of short rams, and
the K&N filter alone. The 2 CAIs made 20 HP and increased torque, the shiort
rams did only 5-7hp much less effect on torque, and the K&N filter had no
effect on either HP or torque. The magazine may still have the issue on
their website.(Google search for it)

I don't have the magazine anymore.

Look in the left column for "K Series (RSX/Si)", then click on "K20a3" -
your RSX has a K20A3 engine.

DUH! I looked at that site for about a half-hour and never saw that.
Thanks!

now go to www.clubrsx.com and do a search in the forums on Hondata, that
will convince you to spend the money.

20hp from a cold air intake...? so the base/premium RSX would go up to 180hp
from a $150 mod...? If I change the plug wires that might give me another
5hp, changing the fluid in the halogen headlights for another 10 and I can
kick the snot out of a RSX Type S...?

Seems a little to much of a performance gain to me... But then I only
installed a K&N filter, so what do I know..!

Oh yes, I am only joking about the halogen fluid in the headlights..!

Well,I was repeating what the MAGAZINE ARTICLE said. They're the ones who
did the testing.
But I suspect you didn't even read the article, but just are making
uneducated comments.

Seems you know nothing about intake air temperature or air flow restriction
effects on engine HP and torque.

Hahaha sure I are uneducated... Think about it dude, 20 hp more from a 160
hp engine that is 1/8 of the total engine power just from changing the
filter to a CAI... I think that (even in my uneducated state) those
performance gains include the hondata chip as well. Now that I could see..!
