Default Heated Seats

Since the weather has turned cooler, I've had the chance to use the
heated seats on our 2003 MDX. I noticed that the back and seat of the
driver's seats heats up while only the seat of the passenger's side
heats up. I asked the Acura dealership, thinking there was a problem,
and they told me that it is that way in all Acuras.

Is this true?

Don't they think that the passenger's butt gets as cold as the
driver's? I'm the cold one in the family and I'm usually the
passenger.

That is necessary because there is a sensor in the passenger seat to
automatically cut off the air bad if the occupant is too small.

Sometimes I think the back of my RSX drivers seat doesn't warm up and if
it does, not that I can really tell.

Maybe it's because of the side airbags?

My 2003 Acura EL only heats the seat, not the back, for both front seats.
Being a low end Acura, I would expect that. But an MDX? That car should
heat up the whole seat and massage your balls at the same time for the price
you pay.

Default Re: Heated Seats

The story I got from the dealer when I bought the 2000 TL was that through
the '99 models, the right seat back was heated. When they added the side
air bag to the 2000, it had to come out of the right seatback to make room
for the sensor that detects when the passenger is leaning into the door
(which then disables the side air bag and lights the warning light on the
dash). The left seat on the TL is heated both bottom and back.

Your RSX has heated seats? I have an 03 and they didn't even mention that
as an option. Are they leather?

Yes they are leather and they are heated. The Canadian RSX has both heated
seats and side mirrors.
There is/was a low end base rsx here with cloth seats and no sunroof, but
I'm not sure if it's even sold
anymore. We had 3 versions altogether.. Base.... Premium (US base) and
Type S..

E Meyer is correct. The passenger seat back has an Occupant Position
Detection System (OPDS) The sensor is located in the seat back and
thus does not allow the use of a heater in the seat back.
