I got a 2003 RSX type S in june of '03, and now the clutch pedal is
making this annoying creaking sound like a rusty door hinge. It happens when my foot is holding the pedal down for along time, i.e. when I am in stop and go traffic on the freeway and i'm trying to coast along at 1mph. The teeny movement of the clutch pedal while I'm holding it down (and my foot lets it up even the slightest amount) makes this loud creaking sound that is really embarassing. I've looked in the service manual, and there are grease points on the pedal mount, but its not easy to get to them because of the way the pedal is mounted. Before i try to figure it out from scratch, I thought I would cast a line into the great collective conciousness of a.a.a. and see if anyone has had this problem (and fixed it!). please post replies to the group |

well I got a rsx-s 2002 with 50K miles on it and I noticed a sound like the one you describe after about 6 months. I could not identify where it came from very well at first. ( barely audible when windows closed and bought it in Nov 2001) Now it seems to me like it comes from the clutch itself not the pedal. It can do it when the clutch is fully release when I have to cruise from 1 to 5 mph. I do not worry about it to much so far but I sure would like to explain it. I never usually hold my foot on the clutch for a long time. In trafic jams, I would let the car in front of me take a bit of advance then de-clutch for 2 seconds then let the car move on in neutral. Not sure I am right doing this, I rarely let the clutch slip but I do a lot more shifting. ( 1st <-> neutal ). I got a friend of mine who does rally racing and he lets his foot on the clutch at red-lights and let the car in first gear to be ready to take off faster he says ;-) He should trade his VW Fox for a SUBARU then he'd take off fast hehehe.... I am not sure the sounds we are talking about are the same, but as said any knowledge is welcome. My sound definetly doesn't come from the pedal itself, at least that's what I think so far ... Now, it could even come from other parts of the car like suspension, differential, transmission etc... But the conditions you mention to produce the sound sure do ressemble mines.
