Default Wheels/Tires Recommendation Wanted

Hi. I have a 2003 Acura 1.7 EL. It has factory Acura aluminum wheels and
185/65/R15 all-season tires. I am going to put on Michelin Artic Alpin
snows, but am thinking of buying some cheap wheels so I don't have to keep
getting the tires taken on and off the Acura rims. It should help keep my
wheels in better shape longer.

My question is: Would I be better off going to a 14" tire for the snows?
Someone told me that the tires will be cheaper and the smaller the footprint
the tire leaves the better for snow tires. I am originally from Vancouver
and have never had to buy snow tires, but now that I'm in Calgary, I think
it's time. I would appreciate any insight you all might have.

Thanks,

Rick

Sorry if this sounds repetitive to the previous post entitled "Toyos? Wheel
size..."

He did say that his opinions would be void in the case of a "real" winter,
and I assume that Calgary would be considered a "real" winter.

his 15's are have a 65 profile, I doubt that he'd save much money with
the 14's. Not to mentio nthat a 70 profile is going to get really sloppy
in the handling.

Take a look at tirerack.com and do a comparison.

I posted yesterday about tires recommendations, just look for it.

Basically, keep same tire size and rim size, and buy stell rims for winter.

I've been in Calgary for about two years now and as a previous Ontario
resident I think it's not the amount of snow per season that makes it
tough, it's the removal practices. After being in Hamilton and London,
anyway, this city seems extremely slow in removing ice. I think the
reason is the property tax structure is so low that there isn't the
budget to run the plows and sanders too much. The side streets could be
icy for quite some time after a snow. I kept thinking, thank god I have
abs now. I've been waiting for a chinook wind to melt it all for five
days now, usually they come within a week. Some people I've talked to
have spoken about getting studded tires. I don't think snow tires are
really a necessity anywhere around here, it just takes a little more
time to get around if you have performance oriented all seasons.
