Default 1992AcuraLegend=> WEIRD HEAT

to anyone out there:

i just recently purchased a 1992 Acura Legend...
(of course USED) 200+k miles.

and... it tends to heat up...
when i'm going up a hill.....
i don't mean big hills....
i mean... just regular run-of-the-mill ups and downs when
driving.

hot going up... then... i can cool it down when i punch the
accelerator... but... sometimes... it may take
over 30 seconds to cool it back.

when i idle... it's alright... unless....
i'm on a hill... then... it goes through
the roof.

YES- radiator NEW
YES- got coolant
YES- oil is fresh

question... could it be oil pump?
timing?
WHAT?

gimme some suggestions if you can.
Thanks in Advance.

Is the fan running?

Try a new thermostat first. Report back

A fan would not make much difference if the car was heating up while moving.

Try thermostat, if that doesnt' work maybe your water pump is shot or
seized.

I have the exact same problem. Evry thing you just described is what my
car is doing. I have already changed the thermostate, and that didnt
fix the problem. What i do know is this: Sometimes the fans come on
and sometimes they don't. My car tends to overheat only on the freeway
but if i jam on the accelerator it cools. When it spikes hot it
usually cools down really fast after a while. another funny thing is
that the heater does not work when the car is running hot! as soon as
the temp drops to normal. the heater works again. This rules out the
termostate. There is a temeture sensor in the botom of the radiator
called the temperature control sensor which operates the fans. if the
sensor gets hot it is supposed to turn on the fans. Maybe this is the
problem. Ultradeath, if you solve this problem please pass on the
solution Thx Hemmer

Plugged heater core/clogged radiator. Needs cleaning, rodding, or a new
core/radiator.

Legend overheating is a very serious problem and can lead to a very very
very expensive blown head gasket.

If your Legend runs hot, get it fixed. My Legend temp guage never moves, but
if it did I would freak out, as I have heard a blown headgasket is about
$2000.00 to fix !

timing belt could be loose! I have a 92 legend I changed the timing belt
when I got in there I couldn't believe how loose it was and still running I
could take the waterpump and just spin it with relatively ease im thinking
maybe your pump is turning but not enough when the engine really needs that
circulation it would be a good idea to have it checked anyway
