My 91 Integra - 210K miles uses 1 qt. per 3500 miles. I say uses, since
there are no leaks and it does not smoke, but goes somewhere.....lol...
Keep us posted on what you find.....interested too.

My 91 Integra LS, 5-spd burns/uses about 1 qt every 1,000 or so miles. It's
got 165k miles on it.

I talked to my mechanic again about the disappearing oil. I mentioned to him
that someone suggested changing my PCV valve, and he did not think that
could be the problem. But, my subsequent research indicatates that a bad PCV
valve could be the culprit, so I may just tell him to change it anyway. I
would do it myself but I don't know how to find it.

My mechanic did say he would look around again for leaks, next time I did an
oil change.

I will keep everyone posted if they like.

This summer I used to burn 1/3 quart for 600 miles (1 quart /1800 miles) in
my 1990 Integra .... I was very concerned about this since I am a kind of
"car maniac" and I had a Toyota Tercel 3E engine with an oil burning
problem a couple of years ago..so I decided to change my PCV valve, and I
drove 2000 since then without any oil burning !!!!!!!!

I would suggest that you change your pcv valve since it is very cheap
(8-15$) and can do a major improvement ...

By the way I'm a mechanical engineering student and I worked in a car engine
rebuilding shop as a summer job and let me tell you some possible causes for
an EXCESSIVE oil consumption:
-bad valve seals (which can be replace quite easily WITHOUT removing the
head on B series engines). In this case, most likely you would have a blue
smoke puff when revving the engine after it has been idling for a couple of
minutes --> If no blue smoke, you probably don't have an oil burning
problem and the little consumption is within tolerance, which is
1litre/1500km (1quart/950 miles)

-bad piston rings, same symptoms as above but requiring a small overhaul ...
By the way, on hondas this is quite rare unless you're a real brute !

-PCV valve clogged , check it and replace it

-Have a look on the cam plug at the rear of the head (left hand side, beside
the distributor), as they tend to become hard and leak ...

-any other leak ... nothing to say ....

email me if any questions

Marc,
Thanks for reconfirming about the PCV valve. I am going to tell my mechanic
to replace it. Or is it easy to replace on my own? FYI, I am a chick who
does not change her own oil. But I also have an engineering background and
would get a kick out of it if it's easy. The biggest problem is I dont' know
where to look.

Thanks very much. I will have a look and make sure I can find it first.

My 91 Integra LS has right around 220K on it now but never seems to
drink a drop of oil, the dipstick is usually in the same place when
I'm changing it as it was when I changed it last time. Doesn't seem
to require any oil in between changes. Might be a leak somewhere
which isn't obvious.
