Default 1999 3.2TL Serious Engine Problem

Have '99 3.2 TL with about 73k miles on it. I bought it new. Knocking in
engine occcurring- took back to dealer and diagnosis is a severely scored
cylinder, requiring a replacement of the "bottom half" of the engine block.
( Approx $5,300) I am in shock. I normally own Toyotas and Hondas, take
excellent care of them and drive them until they have 170K+ miles on them,
and they still run great! I am sure this is an oddity for Acura. What are
the chances of Acura standing behind this car and paying for the engine? Has
anyone ever heard of this occurring in an Acura TL before?

Are the US built TLs just not as well built as the Pre-99 Japan built model? My
98 TL 2.5 has been tremendous - but I read about a lot of transmission problems
with the 2nd Gen TLs. If true, it is a sad state of affairs.

Enjoy,

I"ve never heard that before...sound like you got a unique one. A scored
cylinder? That must have been some foreign object that got into the oil or
something....i've never heard the term scored cylinder before though....I
dont know.
