Default 2001 TL windshield costs

Today on the freeway, got hit by a rock and managed to get
about a 6" crack in the windshield of my 2001 TL. Does anybody
have any idea what the replacement costs for a windshield is
for this vehicle?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi, Bob:

Check with your insurance. If you have glass coverage, it should be for
free. I have a TL 3.2, 2000 - it got hit by a rock chip on the windshield,
from a truck 3 months after I had it. I had a brand new windshield put it,
didn't cost me a cent. I am here in Mass - may be different where you are.
Also, if you have glass coverage, insist on the "Honda" brand original -
they (insurance /& or the glass replacement company) may try to get you an
OEM brand if you don't ask for it. The typical excuse is "you gotta wait a
few days for the Honda windshield"..so go ahead and wait a few days - it's
worth it. There are some windshield replacement shops, that will come out
to your place (or work) and change it. I just took mine to a windshield
replacement place and they swapped it in about an hour!!

My 2 cents.

My windshield is cracked on my '99 TL. My insurance as a $100 deductable
and trust me, I am going to pay it. It is going to cost about $700 for the
dealer to replace my windshield. That or pay $250 for some other place to
do it. Either way, I am only paying $100 so dealer here I come :-)

Acutally...is there a difference if the dealer installs an origional
windshield or if I have some company come out to my house and change it with
an origional? Think the dealer does a better job? I just dont want my
insurance to go up because I had a $700 windshield replacement.

Definitely go for the original windshield replacement. I had the
windshield in my '91 Accord replaced by Safelite Glass here on L.I. I
wasn't given the option of OEM or non-OEM glass. As I drove away I
noticed a different color tint in the replacement glass. On the way
home I noticed something even worse. There was distortion in the
glass.
When moving your view up and down through the glass it was waved.
You couldn't see anything in the glass itself but when your viewing
height changed the wavey glass made for a very annoying situation. I
had them replace it with original glass from Honda. It was perfect
after that.

Never any non-OEM parts for me again. Especially with Honda's usual
high quality. I hate to make something worse than it was originally.

I've had extremely bad luck with my '03 EL - 3 windshields in 9 months. No
glass coverage for insurance where I live (Alberta) unless you pay extra.
Then when you make a claim they jack up your rates. So you take your
chances. I seem to be on a losing run, since I've been hit by flying rocks
twice that I had no choice but to replace. They don't use salt on the
highways here, just sand to prevent corrosion and environmental issues, I
think. Their definition of sand must be that every particle be less than an
inch in circumference!
I went non-OEM glass, though, and did not notice any quality issues. The
Acura glass was $349 at the dealer, the non-OEM was $189 installed at
Glassmasters (a good local shop), and they've had the shade bar along the
top and no problems with them at all. That price is Cdn dollars, and they
came to my house to replace it both times. BTW: $189 Cdn is $138 US.If
there is a quality difference, I haven't seen it, especially not enough to
make me spend another $150.

I realize the 1.7 EL isn't exactly in the same class as most of your
Acura's, and those driving more pricy wheels might feel differently, but if
you deal with a reputable glass shop who only deals in quality glass,
non-OEM might be an option. It was for me.

In this case it was just a scratch.. no big deal. Got most of it out of the
hood with rubbing compound. (Wax job probably helped with that too) Trimac
is a well respected company; that's the building I work out of, it looks
like the Hilton. I wouldn't expect them to routinely run trucks that are in
violation. If sued the smaller builder would be more likely to just take
off and nobody ever sees them again. I'd be getting plate numbers of
possible witnesses as well if I run into this again on a larger scale or in
court it's just my word against somebody else's. Interesting..
