Default TSX or ACCORD??

Hi, My father is looking to buy either a 4cyl Accord or a TSX and he
asked me to try and get some opinions on how these cars compare (or
don't) to one another. Pricing aside, he knows the TSX has 40 hp
more than the 4cy. Accord -- he doesn't want the 6cyl Accord -- and he
certainly expects the TSX to out handle and be the more nimble of the
two. But his main concern is that he'll possibly be giving up to much
ride comfort for the crisper handling of the TSX. Does the TSX strike
a good balance between luxury and performance or does the performance
geared suspension package provide a choppy ride on less than perfect
terrain? It's usually not easy to find a reasonably priced car that
can deliver on both ends of the luxury and performance spectrum -- at
least that's my opinion. Any TSX owners out there who would like to
share their thoughts on the positives and negatives of this car? Any
feedback is very much appreciated, Greg.

The other thing to consider is the relative high number of safety
complaints again the 2003 Accord on the NHTSA web-site. There were so
many that I stopped reading after 2 hours.

The TSX is too new, so it doesn't have any safety complaints. I hope
Honda fixes these problems in the 2004 Accord.

Say what? Hmm.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...0&summary=true

Hmmmmmm.

Checking 1999 CL, 1999 TL, 2003 TL, there are only a handfull. There
are a lot of Accords on the road, but the complaints are disturbing.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

J.

The number of complaints against the 2003 Accord are high when
compared to other popular cars such as the Civic, the Ford Taurus, or
the Ford Focus (for heaven sakes!)

However, just as important as the high number of safety issues is
Honda's approach of blaming the driver, or "we cannot find anything
wrong".

The various Accord, TL, and CL forums are full of tales of
transmission problems. Honda's response was to extend the warranty
.... in other words, we'll fix it when it breaks. Except when
something goes wrong, it can kill you. They should have been
responsible and recalled them. From the NHTSA website, it seems the
problem extends beyond just the transmissions.

I was also originally deciding between the Accord or the Acura TSX,
but there is no way I will buy an Accord now. In this case, their
reputation is much better than reality. I really hope this is just a
temporary lapse.

"MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE DRIVING ALONG A BUSY STREET WHEN I ATTEMPTED
TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE THE TRAFFIC AHEAD STARTED SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED
LIGHT AND MY CAR DIDN'T RESPOND TO MY BRAKING. I WAS DRIVING BEHIND A
BUS AND MY CAR KEPT ACCELERATING TOWARDS THE BUS. I THREW THE CAR IN
PARK - STRIPPING THE GEARS - AND THE CAR KEPT GOING. BY SOME LARGE
MIRACLE, THERE WAS A GAP IN THE TRAFFIC COMING IN THE OPPOSITE
DIRECTION, SO I TURNED INTO THOSE LANES AND TRAVELED FOR A FEW FEET
BEFORE I CAME UPON A ONE WAY STREET - NOT IN MY FAVOR - IT'S ANOTHER
MIRACLE NO ONE WAS COMING UP THAT STREET, SO I TURNED INTO THE ONE WAY
HOPING TO FIND SOME WAY TO STOP THE CAR. THE TWISTS AND TURNS TOOK
AWAY SOME OF THE MOMENTUM AND WHEN I HAD GONE ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY
DOWN THE ONE WAY STREET, I YANKED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE CAR
FINALLY STOPPED. THE CAR WAS TOWED INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON TUESDAY, MAY
6, 2003 AND THEY CALLED ME ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 7TH, TO SAY THAT THEY RAN
ALL SORTS OF CHECKS AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THE FACT
THAT THE BRAKES ARE NOW WORKING DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE BRAKES ARE
GOOD. MY DAUGHTER AND I CAN TESTIFY TO THAT FACT BECAUSE WE WERE THE
ONES WHO FACED THAT NEAR DEATH SITUATION AND I REFUSE TO TAKE A CHANCE
WITH OUR LIVES. THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE BRAKES AND I WOULD HATE TO
START SEEING REPORTS OF FATALITIES CAUSED BY THIS BECAUSE THEY SIMPLY
DID NOT DO EXTENSIVE ENOUGH TESTS TO FIND AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THE
DEALER IS BASICALLY SAYING THAT SINCE THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM, I
HAVE NO CHOICE BUT THE TAKE THE CAR BACK. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT DRIVE
THAT CAR THE WAY IT IS BECAUSE I CONSTANTLY VISUALIZE THE OUTCOME HAD
I BEEN TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY GOING 50 OR 60 MILES AN HOUR. AS IT IS,
WE ARE VERY LUCKY AND THANKFUL THAT EVERYTHING WORKED IN OUR FAVOR AND
WE DID NOT CRASH. I DON'T WANT TO BECOME A STATISTIC AT WHICH TIME
THEY WILL BREAK THEIR NECKS TO FIND AND FIX THE PROBLEM....TOO LATE.

Looks like another in the long, long line of "Omigod, I
stepped-on-the-brakes-but-the-car-didn't-
slow-down-because-I-actually-was-stepping-on-the-accelerator-like-a-complete
ly-freaked-out-
dweeb". How many times are idiots going to step on the gas instead of the
brakes in an
emergency situation, and then blame the car? Jeez louise! And why does the
NHTSA site accept
such obviously stupid complaints? There are actually Toyota Prius
complaints relating to how
the "engine turns off at stop lights". Duh! It is designed to do so, you
buffoon.

"Omigod, I yanked hard on the steering wheel at 75mph, then let go
completely, closed my eyes,
and the car reacted strangely." Yup, I imagine it did.
"This car is a lemon, when I slam on the brakes on a gravel road, the brake
pedal tickles my
feet by vibrating or pulsing somehow ... it must be broken. and I have ABS
...."

Please, we urgently need mass transit for the masses who don't know how to
properly
transit in their car. Get 'em off the road, leaving more room for us ...
