Me too. The only time the car will downship and the tach will race is when
you are going up a steeeeep hill. By my house, there is a huge hill that I
usually take in 2nd gear. When I am on cruise control and there is nobody
in front of me...the car on cruise will usually shifts to 3rd and takes it
just fine. It think for the most part the tach stays the same because the
engine got good torque. Enough to handle the hills without reving. Also,
maybe the cruise control is good enough to give it just that extra bit of
gas going up the hill to keep it just at the same RPM...just sucking more
gas to give the power. Next time....hold your foot over the gas pedal and
see if the gas pedal moves at all when going up those hills.
