Default '92 Acura transmission question

I have a 1992 Acura Legend with about 160,000 miles on it. It runs great,
but lately I've been having a problem with the "D4" light on the
transmission position indicator flashing and the speedometer going all
goofy (the speedometer goes goofy first and then the "D4" light starts
flashing).

This is an intermitent problem that will sometimes not occur for days
(weeks) and then will occur every time I drive the car for several days.
If I stop the car and turn off the engine, the problem will (usually)
abate, but not always.

I have not noticed any drop off in performance, either in gas mileage or in
the feel of the car. The owners manual says that if the "D4" light flashes
that is a very bad sign.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Vehicle speed sensor in the diff is failing. The part is about 100 bucks I
believe and the labor will probably be around 75 bucks. It is relatively
easy to do but you need tamper proof torx socket to disassemble the power
steering speed sensor.
