Default Integra 98

Hi,

I have integra GS 98 automatic.
Since 25k miles, the transmission is having a problem.
Whenever there is a shift from lower gear to higher gear (first to second)
it jerks. Though it is automatic I feel it very much while driving at slower
speeds.

Took to dealer 3-4 times, but it is always returned with an answer that all
the codes are correct and this is the normal behavior. I feel very strange
as this started happening only after 25k. Now it is over 50K, which means
out of waranty, how do I tackle this issue. Dealer says, bring it back if it
has problem and we honor the waranty as I have reported well within the
waranty.

Gave it today, still the the same end result, all is OK.
could someone on the board confirm if this is normal behaviour in integra's?
If not what is the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers
S

Has any tranny service been done (fluid replacement for instance)?

I can't say for sure that your tranny is normal but it is characteristic of
Integras to shift hard into second gear. First and second gen Legends and
Integras are prone to this shifting harshness. Probably nothing can be done
to ease the shifting short of a rebuild with different accumulator springs
etc.

Thanks David.
So, what you say is, this is quite normal in second gen integra's as well.
But the harsh shifting became noticable after 25k. Is that normal too?

Thanks again

Basically all the Hondas I ever drove have a big jump from 1st to 2nd gear.
So I'm guessing it's normal. As long as it lasts a long time. Nissans also
have a jerk from 1st to 2nd but it's quicker and they still can't make a
tranny that downshifts properly. I guess it's not a huge priority for these
manufacturers.

I cured my harshness by two drain and refills with Honda ATFZ1 and the
cleaning of my tranny solenoid screens. My tranny now upshifts very
smoothly with good quick downshifts on hard acceleration and easy and smooth
downshifts on small hills. 89 Legend with over 160,000 miles.
