Default 97 cl 2.2 rebuild

Hi All. First Post.

Just bought a 97 CL (5 speed manual!). Got it cheap cause it needs engine work. Previous owner overheated it and now it runs rough and smokes. I drove his car (my car) before and it ran real strong and smooth, he just put in a new clutch. My guess is that it overheated simply because the radiator cap was bad and the water evaporated through the cap or the head gasket was going bad and he pushed it too far. Could be as simple as a bad head gasket, but I wanna do a complete rebuild for mild performance. I live in a hot and mountainous climate, central Mexico (I'm a transplanted Hoosier, Go ND!) so I'll want to make cooling systems upgrades to accommodate the climate.

So tell me what you all think I should do. Having an Acura down here is very cool because there aren't many driving around in Toluca where I live (almost 9000 ft elevation) I've never seen another CL driving around. A few newer Acuras, but all sedans.

I'm not new to Acura/Honda. I've had a 91 Legend LS coupe, 91 Civic, 93 Accord, and a 81 Prelude. It's nice to get back in a quality car. My Opel Corsa is getting old, and I don't like to drive my 69 Javelin or my 66 Rambler Classic 770.

All advice regarding upgrades that have worked for all of you (brand names and site links would be great!) is much appreciated. I need a few trim pieces too, but will address that in another thread.

Thanx in advance! Rob
