basically you won't. Not being rude, but even if you fully built the engine to run high compression you would only make between 200-225 wheel hp. Now consider that to reach this power you would need $8,000-$12,000. Now compare that to a QUALITY turbo kit from a place like Greddy, Full-Race, or Peakboost you will be making 240-275 for 1/2 the cost. All the "bolt-on" parts like a intake, header, and exhaust will get you about 10-15 wheel hp. The B18B1/B18A1 makes about 115-120 wheel hp in stock form. Now we are at around 125-130, so then a good set of cams, and intake manifold and you add another 10-20, so we are now at 150ish wheel hp. This alone (for quality parts) would be close to $2,000-$2,500.

well u dont want to do the 2 things that are the best for a b18b1 (LS/Vtec for NA or turbo). without those, unless you are using race gas, with a NA b18b1 you will not hit 225 like the above poster said, the MOST you will hit is 200...and that will cost you bank (overbore, high comp pistons, I/H/E, more aggressive camshaft, ARP for reliability, port and polish, blueprint+balance, etc...)

scroll down to post #21. its a regular b18b1 motor w/ high comp pistons, agressive cams, I/H/E...its at 180 WHP.

the reason why VTEC heads are so popular is because of their flow rate. you could achieve the same with agressive cams, a different valvetrain, and some major port work...but it would cost you 5X as much as just getting a VTEC head.

just my $0.02, but VTEC and/or turbo is the best for your motor.

otherwise, it depends on hwo much you want to spend:

cheapest and easiest thing you can do is I/H/E, but you wont make more than 7-15% more than your stock HP.

you can get high comp pistons to increase your compression ratio. its a safe estimate for hondas to expect 10hp/full point of compression. meaning a 10:1 CR will make 10HP more thana 9:1. granted this is dependant on fuel used, A/F ratio, air flow, etc etc etc...but its a good guestimate. so if you upgrade to 11.5:1 comp pistons (safe to do without more severe and costly upgrades to the motor) you can expect to make 165hp just from that.

getting lightweight pulleys can free up some HP

aggressive cams pretty much giv ethe same top end performance that VTEC heads have but you sacrifice low end power

getting a tune will give the most out of your parts.

completely bore the head for good flow. make your stock have almost as good flow as a vtec head. then you will have more high end power and be able to rev it up to 8000 RPM
