An intake resonator is just a chamber in the intake that allows the noise of the engine to not echo, to reduce engine noise. That's why it's seen as a restriction.

If you have ever heard a car with an aftermarket intake, you can really hear the motor. The stock airbox has the resonator so that the motor noise is quieter, same as stock exhaust systems.
