Default What is the difference between the 2006 Acura RSX and Acura RSX Type S?

Is the Type S the only one that has the unique headlights or did they make headlights like that in the regular RSX? Do they both come in manual and automatic?

The '06 Type-S had 50-55 more hp (depending on whose hp ratings you believe) from a higher revving 4 cylinder, the Type-S was available only in a 6-speed manual transmission (the base RSX could be had with a 5-speed automatic), and the Type-S suspension was tuned for more agressive driving and better handling over ride quality compared to the regular RSX.

The headlight design is the same for both RSX and Type-S of respective model years, but in 2005 Acura mildly updated the styling of the RSX and made the bottom of the headlights straight across instead of looking like there were "cutouts" for the individual headlights in the bottom of the light if that's what you're talking about concerning headlight design.

The Type S was rated at 201hp I believe, due to the higher performance iVTEC, the higher compression ratio, and the more efficient cylinder head design. The standard RSX had a much more fuel economy based iVTEC to make 160hp, which gives the Type S a 41hp advantage. The Type S was only available with a 6 speed manual, while the base car had a 5 speed manual or an optional 4 speed automatic. The Type S also had a stiffer springs and dampers (Shocks and struts), larger anti-roll bars, larger wheels with slightly wider tires. Headlights were changed to the non-cutout design in 2005 I believe, when they switched the engine designation to the K20Z1 in the Type S, pushing output to 210hp (rerated to 201 in 2006).

The only cosmetic difference between the bodies of the car is the Type-S has a decklip spoiler on the hatch and the base doesn't. The headlights and taillights are the same for all models. The 02-04 has the bubble style headlights and tails, while the 05/06 has the lights that are smooth on the bottom.

Base RSX

* 160hp 2.0 liter k20a3 with 9.8:1 compression and a 6800rpm redline

* 5 speed manual or automatic transmission

* cloth interior

* single din stereo

* 16 inch rims specific to the 05/06 base RSX

* the base has an option for leather interior and Bose sound system called the Premium Package

RSX Type-S

* 201hp 2.0 liter k20z1 with 11:1 compression and an 8300rpm redline - in 2005 the motor was rated at 210hp, but SAE changed it's rating system and this dropped the 2006 to 201hp even though it's still the same motor

* 6 speed manual only

* sport tuned suspension

* leather interior

* Bose premium sound system

* the two paint colors Burnt Orange Metallic (BOM) and Jade Green Metallic (JGM) were only offered on the Type-S model

* The hatch has a small decklip spoiler - like a small lip on the trunk for aerodynamics

* 17" rims specific to the Type-S

The A-Spec options are available to all versions of the RSX. The lip kit and high wing are the most popular, but there is also an A-Spec brake kit, suspension kit (drops the ride height by one inch and is firmer) and a wheel set.
