do you have both a 2005 and a 2008? the dvd disk has to remain in the car. it is not something you download and then take out. i just updated my 2004 TL to the newest orange disk last month. you remove old disk, and put in new one.
also a 2005 and 2008 require different disks. the 2005 will need the version 3.90 orange 2010 release. the 2008 will need the white version 4.81 disk. consult this website for more info.http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...dMenuItem=Home

No. The '05 and '08 TL navigation systems have different features, that's why they use different discs/versions. You can buy a new DVD from http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...gationMenu=YES or Amazon.
