The transmission is failing on my 2002 Acura TL.































This model was notorious for transmission problems and so Acura extended the transmission warranty to 7 years/100,000 miles. The car has only 85,000 miles on it but is just barely 8 years old, so it's now technically outside the warranty.































The Acura dealer says I need a new transmission. They said they would pay half the $5000 cost to repair it, making my share $2500. Sounds ridiculous to me. What should this job cost?































PS - I appreciate any/all advice but please don't suggest I replace it myself. I don't even own a toolbox.

call a transmission shop your best bet and 2500 maybe a fair price















call three shops will get a ideal of pricing but my guess if dealer wil pay 2500 you might find a transmission shop cheaper still dealership shoul dbe last place to go since they are and always wil be the highest place to get anything done and least likey to know how to do it dealer ships in busniess to sale cars not repair them for which we have shop who do it every day always makes them better choice but shop a round call three shops you get a better deal great if not then dealership

In actuality, you are paying the whole cost of the transmission and it is costing the dealer nothing.

Id go with the 2500. We all know stealershps are gonna screw you over but that is probably the cheapest youre gonna get a factory transmission for dude. Or you could sell the car and buy a used corolla for 2500.00 lol

I would check around @ least 3 transmission,overhaul shops & get written quotes & warranty time















limits..Suspect though that,dealership might be the best,in the long run..This way you get genuine,















parts & oil,plus their warranty..Which if you want to on sell car,you can add on the fact,that there is,















time left on the warranty..Also with engine out,try & cut a deal that they replace the cam belt,as















well pretty sure you will get a deal here..















Think for $2500 not to bad,but do the math my friend..
