Hi I have a 97 Acura Integra LS and bought it on the streets (not from a dealership) the car came with a Vtec Controller (no paperwork for it) and im pretty sure it didnt come like that straight from the dealership im guessing the previous owner put it on himself as well as the headers are from a GSR... and the air intake is missing the sticker with a Code... I have another one at home from a friend that DOES have a sticker though can I just swap out my current air intake and put in the one that does have the sticker on? or was that sticker registered only to be used on the original car? When I tried to smog my car they told me I couldnt pass because of the Vtec controller i believe, they were pointing out to some wires that were coming from the intake manifold and said "that shouldnt be there." and at the time a friend told me he thought those wires were from the Vtec controller, so I assumed it was the vtec controller that didnt let me pass.
So im wondering is my car not street legal? And if so what is it that keeps it from being street legal and smogged? Also if there is anyway for me to legally own that VTEC controller on my car please let me know what I can do to make it legal to drive as I do not want to give it up lol |

youll be fine unless th person really knows what to look for and thats usually a state ref. the intake are you talking about a carb sticker for aftermarket? if thats what then you might have a problem the legal way ;]. you can swap out for one that does have a sticker they arent reg to a car. just tuck away those wires or remove and you should be fine

gsr and ls headers are pretty close to being the same. the gsr flow's a little better. put the intake with the CARB sticker on it, in the car. if the car has the original ls motor in it, ditch the vtec controller and sell it. if it DOES have a swapped motor in it, if i am not mistaken, it can not be a jdm motor. it has to be usdm. the easiest way to check this, is look at the block stamp. its beside the transmission sticker under the head. it will say B18B1 for an ls, or B18C1 for a gsr. B18C5 for a type r. for jdm motors, they will not have a number after the second letter ie: B18B. as for having a swap in it, i don't see why it wouldn't pass. i have friends in california with H22 swaps in their eg hatches, and they pass the emissions stuff out there.
