It'll be hard to find something less than a grand but you might luck out and find a SI, GSR, or Type R that's been rear ended and scraped. You could actually save yourself alot of money and just bolt on a VTEC head from one of the 3. You can find them for 300 to 400 and a few hundred to remap the ECU. At that point you've basically got a Type R with a stouter bottom end perfect for forced induction.

the cheapest motor with bang for your buck will be the B20. its inexpensive and has a lot of potential. you can swap the head out for a vtec head from an Si. You can also slap on a Si transmission. the short gear ratio and the torque the B20 , u will launch hard. Another way you can go is by going LS-vtec. keep your engine, just swap the head out for a vtec head. Ive heard that LS-vtec engines are very powerful and fast. its cheap too.
