handling on an acura rsx? to be more specific, i now have 205/50/16 size tires on my rsx, however, according the vehicle manual, the original tire size for a 2004 RSX is 205/55/16. how will this change in size affect anything? can i even change the size some more to make it a bit more low-profile? if so, will that help handling? also, any RSX owners have any suggestions on whats the best tire for performace + wet traction? thanks!!

Won't even remotely change anything in the slightest.
Go use this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Less than half an inch in radius. The car won't ever notice it. But your speedometer will be 2mph off. And why would you want more low profile? Low profile doesn't equal performance. Just makes the car look bad. And all you've done so far, is change the sidewall aspect by 5. Pointless, really. Want better handling? Work on the suspension. And that doesn't mean anything under $500. Get wider tires, which help with lateral traction and handling through corners, Get taller (aka BIGGER) tires, to help with forward traction. But you said handling, not acceleration. Subframe mounts. Not strut bars, but actually welding extra parts to the car to make it more rigid. Final note, you would change the WHEELS, not the rim. The rim is only the thin strip of metal around the outside of the wheel, which creates a seal for the tire. The entire part, is a wheel. Unless you call crackers and cookies "ridges"? |

wouldnt see any differents in 5 mm less than a half inch and with some brands of tires no change at all in tire and yes you can go up one or down one size no problems other than being lower and maybe draging cant go much wider than what wheel wil hold pretty much same way one size either way say like 205 to 215 easy wouldnt go 195 might be too small might lost handling might go 45 but be pushing limits of fit
lower profile might rise the numbers but you want to keep same height talk with a tire shop really they can get what your looking for |

your rim size does not effect the handling, the lower profile you go the better the handling but you will loose the ride quality(comfort)and you take a good chance in bending a wheel from potholes. you really should upgrade the suspension, start with bigger swaybars and links.
