To lessen confusion in the future make it OBD2 since that's what 1996 car and newer were manufactured with and it's easier to scan.

i dont see why you would downgrade to OBD1 when your car is already OBD2.

i say OBD2 is better for your car.

You'll want to stay OBD2 because your engine harness in your coupe is already OBD2. But if you want to run a chipped ECU you'll have to buy an OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness. All chippable ECUs are OBD1.

i personally would say obd1 is better because it is so much easier to find electrical stuff for them and plus u can get a chipped ecu but ou dont need to do a swap just get a jumper harness off ebay that goes from obd2 to obd1

From what I understand,OBD1 is better for performance where the OBD2 is better for economy.I know allot of people that changed out their OBD2 ECU with a OBD1 ECU so that they could modify their cars for racing.
