Default Fuel injection cleaner in a 2005 Acura TL?

Hello,I need to know if its safe etc. I got my car new. She has 67,300 miles. I've gotten into the habit of filling up and driving till empty. Last week my car felt like it was gonna stall twice and then the engine light came on for another 2 days or so.Normally I dont keep cars so long but this economy has me stuck..Thanks,Bellatrix

first if the fuel filter is not in the tank change it before running cleaner in the gas,if it is in the tank then run some sea foam in the gas it is better then injection cleaner and safer.

I would avoid running the gas tank so low. Per the cartalk radio guys, I put in a bottle of Chevron Techron from walmart into the gas tank at every oil change. If you have some time, listen to the cartalk radio program on NPR. Best of luck.

I am a mechanic and own a 2004 Acura TL, which is the same generation as yours with similar mileage. Our TLs do not have a serviceable fuel filter, just the sock in the tank. The high-compression 3.2 liter motor requires iridium spark plugs that can be fouled by kerosene-based fuel injector cleaners and octane boosters. If you want to use a good fuel injector cleaner, get the Lucas in a 5 oz. bottle. It's a small bottle, but treats 25 gallons whereas other cleaners only treat 12 or 20. Lucas injector cleaner is non-solvent (where kerosene is). Any injector cleaner that says "contains petroleum distillate" is kerosene-based and will foul the iridium plugs and turn them orange. Also, running the tank near empty will cause the pump to draw in sediment from the bottom of the fuel tank, substantially shortening the life of an otherwise resilient fuel pump. If you go to an auto parts store they can read any latent codes in the computer if the check engine light is no longer on. If they say nothing will come up without your light on, explain to them that it flashed on and off for a bit and that a reliable mechanic ensured you of the possibility of a latent code still being in the OBD. It's not guaranteed to show anything, but when mine flashed on and off I read it with my OBD Scan Tool and got a code.
