Ok so last summer my car was running hot like the little thermostat needle would rise completely to the top once I stopped the car like in traffic and the air conditioning would get hot as well but when I would start rolling again it would cool off. Also when I would park the car and get out the fans would be blowing still for almost an hour! My boyfriend took it to get looked at and the problem was that the thermostat needed a new sensor so we bought it and the problem stopped. Now here we are this summer and the needle is rising again and the fans continue to blow again. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? It has antifreeze and the radiator is ok. I'll have to admit that at first I didn't take care of my car but I'm starting to get better. I know that I need an oil change and a I've needed a new air filter for about a year now if that helps.

It sounds like the thermostat itself could be sticking. They are usually ~$20 from an autoparts store and a couple of bolts. If it's been more then a few years it would not hurt to drain the coolant, flush the radiator then refill it with fresh coolant while you're at it. Corrosion in the radiator could be making it less effective also but I would check for a stuck thermostat first.

You've started to take care of your car, but you know you need an oil change and new air filter for a year!?!?! OMG, I change my oil like once every two months! I don't know what's wrong with your car, but if it starts to overheat again, turn off the AC!!! It'll keep your car from overheating and you getting a large bill! At least until you can have the problem solved. And go get that oil change, you don't want the thousand+ bill that comes with that problem.
