Default is a 2006 acura tl with a salvage title a good deal?

I am thinking about getting a 2006 acura tl with a salvage title. it only has 22k miles and the price is extremely within my price range. before i buy it i plan on taking it to a mechanic and having a detailed check done. assuming the mechanic doesnt find anything serious that cannot be seen from the exterior, i am strongly considering purchasing this car.my intentions with this car are to drive it for such a period that the resale value is next to nothing. i was wondering what people who have more familiarity with this thought on this subject. any insight is greatly appreciated.

Well I guess it depends on just how cheap it is. I don't know if its been fixed or is going to be fixed but wrecked cars are never as perfect as them once were. But definitely have a good mechanic check it out and let you know of all problems and an estimate to get everything done so you know what you're getting yourself into. Good luck

Accura is good no matter what..Get it checked, for sure if the geometry is good & it stops when you want it to go for it..Why make other people rich,if you do not have to..If it is in your range & got no majors, then enjoy your driving my friend..When finished with just scrap it..No hassle that way..The jolly best of luck..Stay well..

I wouldn't buy a car that new with a salvage title. Usually that means the damage was over 75% of the car's worth. So if the used book value is 20k, then that means it had at least $15,000 worht of damage. That's a lot! Also, keep in mind that if someone hits you, the most you can likely claim is the salvage value, not the damage value (depends on state you live in).An old salvage car may be worth it. $2000 damage on a old $2500 car is proabably a safer vehicle.

I totally agree with the prior answer of not touching this vehicle. There are many problems with buying a salvaged vehicle: 1) Damage was over 75% of the vehicles value (probably more since it was relatively new). You are looking at between $15K and $20K damage, which usually means the frame is bent. The mechanic will give you a better idea. 2) You have no warranty and will not be able to get one. Little things constantly go wrong with rebuilt vehicles and Acura's are not cheap to fix, salvaged or not. Even if you can afford the payment, think about your ability to afford to fix it. 3) You will not be able to get comprehensive or collision insurance on it. You may find some carrier to give you liability only, but that will be it. 4) It it not a safe vehicle and does not meet US safety standards. 5) You will have a tough time selling it. 6) If you plan on financing the vehicle, a legitimate lender will not finance a vehicle with a salvaged title. If you are paying cash, then this is not applicable.I would look at something a little more used that is not salvaged.

It depends. If you plan to sell it one day, no.As you probably noticed, the resale value went down alot because of the salvage. SO it is not worth selling the car after you buy it. Only buy if you plan to keep it until it dies, which would take a while. At least 10 years depending on how much you drive.Driving a salvage title car just means that when you get in a crash, the car will not be as strong as it was before so the metal would bend easier in the area where the car crashed the first time.

If you can get the car cheap and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off it can be a excellent buy. Find out if you can get it insured and since you are having it checked out-if the mechanic says yes than buy it.

Default Re: is a 2006 acura tl with a salvage title a good deal?

Hi gths100 ,

I know it's been sometime that this message was opened... I think I may be looking at the same car as a dealer is selling Acura TL 2006 silver color, Salvage title for a very attractive price. Mileage are 23000 and he told me that he drove it from California to Oregon. So I think it's the same car, can you please tell me why you didn't buy it?

Would really really appreciate your response!!!!

Thanks in advance.
