My car has been in and out of the shop for 3 weeks, pertaining to it overheating. The thermostat goes to hot only while idling. When start driving, it goes to normal temp. It completely overheated 2 weeks ago and I took to shop.They said, upper radiator hose leak. REPLACED. Car still overheating. Back in shop.They had for 4 days trying to figure out problem. Its not leaking coolant. The thermostat is good and they took it out. There is not any holes in the hoses.Still an issue. Finally, yesterday, I went to check on my car. Cooling fan isn't coming on! BINGO.Cooling Fan is now working but car still overheats. What could it be? Should I take it elsewhere. I do trust them.....to an extent.

has the radiator been flushed could be the cooling passages are plugged with corrosion and not efficiently transferring heat i had a older firebird that constantly overheated took to radiator shop and they used a ultrasound machine to clean the inside and never had that problem again oh yeah is your coolant the proper mix straight coolant or to much water will run hot it needs to be a 50-50 mix of water and antifreeze

i have the same problem on mine, the steam seems to becoming form the resovior in the front of the car. it only overheats when i rev high then go to idle after driving, i think it deff might be a clog in the hose lines.

Needs a new thermostat! seriously get a new one... not the cheapest one! it will open up and wha la! cooling system once again!

Have you replaced the radiator cap or the temperature sending unit? Those are pretty inexpensive to replace and if it still overheats after that then go with a new thermostat. Your new one might be faulty or you may have air in your cooling system.
