If you go to Midas they will check why your check engine light came on.

When speedometer stops working with car still moving,check engine light will come on.

could be anything....get your c.e.l. scaned at a auto parts store to know percisely whats wrong....but my guesses are either its the cat converter or the o2 sensor or just the distributer....
