My car overheats every couple miles and I fill it with water for now. I can literally see the water leak out right under the engine block and I think/know I need to do the head gasket. The engine builds pressure and blows steam out of the antifreeze overflow tank. Is that normal? Does the head gasket have anything to do with the pressure building? And if I replace it should my problem go away??I LOVE MY CAR and need some help.

A blown head gasket would make sense if it was blocking a water jacket as a result of its failure. As far as thermostats are concerned, when they are broken, I just take it out until I get a new one. At the same time, removing the thermostat would allow continuous flow, unless of course if something were to block that flow. This would allow you to check if the gasket is causing flow blockage. Good luck.
