My check engine light has come on and my mechanic states that the code is a bad converter. The car has about 152,000 miles. Can I keep driving the car without any problems? What is an estimated cost of replacing the converter?

You can still drive it, but it will not pass a smog equipment inspection. The converter price is about $200 on the web, maybe a little more at a muffler shop, and then some labor to install. Call around to some independent muffler shops an get a price.
