The 2009 TSX was a pleasant surprise. I actually fit in it with comfort. The Cadillac is comfortable also. The price tag on the Acura is better, but 4-cylinder worries me. Have nay of you owned and have feedback on these cars. My Dads old school thinking of "always get a V8" has scarred me. The Acura felt great in a test drive, but are there issues down the road with wear on a smaller enigine like that? With the Cadillac this is of course not an issue. Anyone..... Any help?????Thanks for the input thus far. I seem to not be able to go wrong. I need to drive a TSX and a Cadillac again. I am willing to wait a little. Really want to see what the new TL will look like.The CTS 3.6 direct injection is out of my league price wise.

There would be no issues down the road. Its an Acura, it will definitely last you longer than the Cadillac. The Cadillac may be more powerful, but with gas prices the way they are, the Acura is the better choice. And Fuel economy isnt the only reason the Acura is a better choice. Reliability, Quality and Value are all better in the Acura.

Simply targeting your question, there is no issues with 4 cylinder small engine. Honda's engine is famous for being the most efficient and reliable. I have seen many honda cars with above 200k miles and still being very reliable requiring only oil change. And in used car market, people has more confident buying "out of warranty" hondas than cadillacs. And it seems that you are ok with TSX even though Acura TL is in more similar class to Cadillac CTS.This is my opinion and conclusion, the only point/difference between Acura TSX and Cadillac CTS is cost. I dont know if it's an issue to you. If I can be satisfied with a cheaper car, more fuel efficient, comparable luxury and comfort; why not? I think it's a smart buy to get Acura TSX;

The Acura is a great car.Honda makes Acura. Honda is teh most reliable car company in the world.Smaller engines are not less reliable.Honda's/Acura's 4 cylinder engines are the most reliable engines in the world easily lasting 500,000 miles.V8's do have more power, but they are simpler and older designs. They do not make cars last longer. They just use more gas.The Acura engine has 200HP. The V8's in older cars also had 200HP. The Acura engine has better technology and makes the same power as an 8 cylinder engine.But from experience and what I see. 4 cylinder cars last much longer.

Your question is about the A-B comparison between a new TSX & a CTS re wear is about reliability & longevity between these two vehicles. First, there's more than one version of the '08 CTS. Cadillac offers their new direct injection 3.6L, and they also offer one or two lesser power plants, all V6s. And of course, there's the new 'fire breathing' CTS-V, the only model offering a V8 (with a slightly detuned Corvette engine).In theory, a larger displacement engine might make for a more robust vehicle, but one has to consider power-to-weight ratios along with overall design & build quality. The TSX @ 3,200 lbs is much lighter than the near 2 ton weight of the CTS. Also & as stated earlier, the Acura (Honda) motor in this car enjoys a rock-solid reputation for reliability...no surprise from Honda, the quintessential engineering company who's also the world's largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines. Honda's approach to power plants is to squeeze lots of performance from relatively smaller displacement by employing technology to its utmost. Their engines are created to turn at substantially higher RPMs than the big block V8s still found in various American vehicles. And historically, Honda motors last & last & last...they're the last thing to go bad in an aging Honda. So, odds are, a well cared for TSX will still be on the road long after a CTS has given up the 'ghost'. Note: The above case for Acura's superb reliability aside, the new CTS w. its new 300+ HP, 3.6 DI motor has received kudos from the automotive public. The new motor achieves its power via direct injection, which allows for its high output to be achieved using only 87 grade gas. However, time will tell how this new engine fares in the reliability department.
