Belt slippage: IDK if you have a separate belt for power steering- if so, tighten the belt. It may be worn out- see if any lengthwise cords are showing, or even bare spots in outer layer. EZ job.If it is a serpentine belt, (1 belt for all) it must be replaced. In this case, do it yourself only if you are very familiar with mechanical stuff. Otherwise it's worth it to have it done in the shop; it's very important that it runs right.

If when you're turning the steering wheel and it squeaks, I'm quite sure you're low on power steering fluid (assuming you have power steering). If you don't have power steering, check the bushings under the car, they could be worn out or starting to go.

despite what everyone else has said, those things would more than likely NOT be the problem.Of course if you wish to CHECK if thats to problem, you can easily do so yourself.I'm not sure how car savvy you are, but if you need to check the tension on your power steering belt, look for a big pulley near the front right of the engine, that would be your power steering pump, simply take a screwdriver and push down in the middle of the belt, if you have more than 1" of play, it needs to be tensioned.Your power steering fluid is located near the same pump, it will be a resivour with a small red top, just pull it open and check the max/min line.If it is somehow your axles (they dont squeak when bad), go into a parking lot turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, and go in a circle then hit the brakes hard this will load the axle on the right side of the car if its bad you will hear it click, to check the left axle, turn right and repeat the process. As for what I think the problem could be. I would check the ball joints connecting the steering rack to the hub assembly, if they're broken all the grease inside, will have drained out and you will have metal rubbing against metal.
