Default Car Help, 93 Grand Marquis or 90's acura integra???? Help!?

Hi guys, I got my N last week and I'm sick of taking the bus. I work 4-9 M-F at bestbuy for $9/hour. The situation I'm stuck with is that my grandpa got a new car and gave me his old 1993 Grand Marquis. The problems I'm facing are that the battery's dead, it's failed aircare and the brakes aren't so good, plus its a V8. My parents said that if I found a car under $5000 as a replacement I could get it. I'm looking at 94-96 Acura Integra's because of their good MPG and its a great looking car. THe other question I'm pondering is if its well maintained, meaning will it die on me or will I have to get it into the shop every month (im talking about the integra) because I see soo many ads for them on craigslist. Plus the integra's are I4 (meaning 4 cylinder?) which is good. The overall thing is "Would I be better off keeping the grand marquis, getting it tuned up, etc. or buying a replacement car (integra). Thanks for any response's!

I personally would chose the Acura. I hope you know how to drive standard (if you don't, find someone who can teach you) because the automatic transmissions on Acuras are a piece of junk. The manual transmission will last longer with proper care

Hey man, personally i would go with the Integra. Why? Well in the US, its called an "Acura" But everywhere else, its a Honda. And HONDAS have very good reliability. I myself have a 01' Acura/Honda Integra GS-R (SIR-G) DC2, and it has about 100,000 miles on it. It never failed on me once. My uncle has a DB Integra, (4 door integra) 94' Integra LS sedan, and a 95' LS sedan with OVER 240,000 miles. Only minor problems like a little overheating. But waht do you expect from a 14 year old car? My uncle pushes his integras to redline, so thats the reason. Integras are VERY fun and reliable. If you take proper care of it, the teg will last you for about 200,000miles +. Theres this one lady with a 94' Integra RS, and guess how many miles? 608,000 MILES! Thats right. It's still working. all she did was drive safely and do regluar changes on the motor, like a simple oil change to a blown head gasket. The integra RS, LS, SE, and GS has a B18B1 motor, which is non-VTEC. 142hp; redlines at 7000RPM.The VTEC integra, GS-R and Type-R has a B18C. GS-R - B18C1 DOHC VTEC 170HP; redlines 8kType-R- B18C5 DOHC VTEC; 195HP; 8,200RPMAnd yes the integra is a great looking car. The 94-96 ay? To inform you, the DC/DB integras (94-01) Integras got a facelift in 98-01. It got bigger headlights, all redded taillights, an air scope on the rear. It looks way better. The only thing that I dont like is that the 98-01 B18 engines are ODB2, not OBD1. But dont worry about this.94-97 Integra:http://www.dragtimes.com/images/9418...tegra.jpg98-01 integra: http://www.newsages.net/wp-content/u...a-98-01.jpgJDM (Japanese Domestic Market) HONDA integra: http://www.kteller.com/images/featur...e_integra1.jpg

i would definitely get the acura. make sure you do a title search on it to find out about any accidents it may have been in though. i have a 99 integra and i LOVE it. my husband wants me to sell it so we can get a new car and i dont wanna get rid of it! i told him that if he wants a new car, he can sell his...lol. btw, i read consumer reports a lot and the integra consistently scores well (well, scored well, since it is no longer made). it is always in the list of "used cars best bets" too. if you take care of it, it will take care of you. i cant say the same for the mercury you now have...with that, id worry about having to put too much money into it to maintain it. defintely go with the integra...or even a honda civic (practically the same car except for the body...but i got even better gas mileage with the civic than with my integra, though my integra does get great gas mileage too). oh, btw, it does cost a little more to buy parts for the acura than the civic because it is an acura...which is kinda stupid since every part under the hood says honda...lol...

The Acura in the long run will be a better car and bet. You may have a free car but gas is only going up in price and the free car will nickel and dime you. The Acura will last to 500,000kms easily as long as you take care of it.
