Default Aftermarket parts and warranties....GRRRR?

Alright, so I just bought a used 1998 Acura Integra GS-R 2 door 5 speed manual transmission. Its a pretty good car as it is now, has a 170 hp DOHC V-TEC engine and it is pretty quick as it is now BUT....I want it to be faster lol. i got this extended warranty thing for either 2 years or 26,000 miles (i thought it would be good) or whichever came first. I then found out that if i put aftermarket parts on the car such as turbo, exhaust, intake, cams, headers, the works, that it would void my warranty?!!? is this true? WTF? why would they take away the fun like that, i mean i do understand why i really do, but i think its dumb lol. back to the question. i heard that there is some kind of warranty act passed in the 70's that says you can mod ur car and they cant do shit about it....in other words i wanna take this japanese tuner car i have and make it a damn rocket on wheels, cuz im all about goin fast lol this question might seem dumb but i dont wanna be stuck with a stock car for 2 years

There is a law that protects you, it's the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuso..._Warranty_Act. It says that the warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought, but obviously the dealer will almost always tries to blame it on the aftermarket parts and not the O.E. parts. I know I was looked a weird when I brought my Accord in to the dealer for an alignment and it has aftermarket rims (so they blamed my messed up alignment on the rims, but I'm out of warranty). So, you are protected with your warranty, even with aftermarket parts, but the dealers don't always like that!! Good luck, hope this helps!
