Reflash the ECU, your rev limiter is kicking in too early

Reflash the ECU. Go to http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/ECUR.html for instructions.

Vtec has a few conditions that has to be met before it can be engaged. Getting it reflashed will probably solve a lot of your problems. It'll allow you to rev higher as well optimize a lot of the settings on a stock ecu. Check Hondata for further information (http://www.hondata.com).

Ok, first things first, you cant hear the VTEC System engaging, you FEEL it. Therefor the car must be moving. If I were you, I would not reprogram anything, or at least until its out of warrantee. If you take it in for service, and they notice any type of tampering, they may charge you for it. If the vehicle will only rev to 5000rpm at a stop, its because the engine computer will think that you are attempting to 'powerbrake' the engine, and its limiting the engine to 5000rpm because anything over, may cause the engine to have a 'torque-surge', and would hinder acceleration runs. And even if it allowed it, a 2.0L 4CYL engine thats capable of 100 horses per liter, that has a 8000rpm redline, is meant to be moving when using the accelerator.
