Default 97 Acura CL, 200k miles, transmission whines?

I am looking at a 97 CL and during the test drive, the trans tended to be a little loud. It shifted OK, but was loud. I know they tend to transfer road noise, but it did seem louder than normal. I am looking to get this for around $1,600. Does this sound like the tranny might need replacing?

the CL's have had some problems with tranny's. You'll probibly end up putting in a new reman tranny in it. But at that price, if the car is really clean it might be worth starting at 00k miles. Good luck!

Those models do have a recall on the transmissions but you are well out of the mile range for replacement. (7 years and 9 months from original date of purchase or 109,000 miles). just because the vehicle shifts ok now does not mean that sooner or later (probalbly sooner) that it is going to need a tranmission. if you have not already bought the car i would definatley look into purchasing something else. because a new transmisson is going to run you at least $2500.00 if not more.

Yes, I have a CL and I havent had this problem, but my cousin has a 99 CL and she has had to replace hers because it was making noise and even though it was an automatic, it was shifting too early or too late. You definitely need to change it before any more damage happens to it.
