Default How do I get the maintence required light turned off in my 2005 Acura TSX?

The light comes on automatically after 20,000 miles. I get my car serviced at a gas station, not a dealership and there is nothing wrong with it. I'm not going to take it to the dealer and pay big bucks just to have it turned off.

hmm, i think you can try disconnect the battery(ground) give it couple minutes and put it back on, it might able to erase it, if it dont work then you probably need some kind of scanner to plug in the ECU

Next time have them put the test guage on to the computer chip connection under the dash. Let them do a diagnostic test and see what caused it to come on. Even a little burp in the starting process can make the light come on and stay on. They can clear out any problem this way and reset your check engine light.

Many import cars have that built it to the computer system so that you get the car serviced. Its a nag light. If your service station has a real shop and not just a quick oil change shop, then the mechanic should have the scanner necessary to turn off the light. Also, many Japanese cars have a relay that has a reset button. I had a Nissan once and that relay was located under the rug under the passenger seat. I pushed the button and no more light. I would not advise taking out the light bulb, because if something major goes wrong, you won't know it until either the car starts running like crap or won't run at all. Nothing worse than standing on the side of the road looking like a dork with a nice car that doesn't run. Especially when it could have been fixed after it told you that somethings wrong . Control the evnt, don't let the event control you (at 3 AM on a dark road).

take it to the dealer. call before and tell them what is going on. they should not charge you, as your car should still be under their warranty. otherwise, try autozone. they can usually turn off and clear any codes causing the check engine light to come on

Check your owners manual. Buried inside that 'novel' somewhere probably is a sentence that tells you how to reset the 'check engine' (or service engine) light. For example, my 2000 V6 Accord's light can be reset by pressing/holding the reset trip odometer button in for 2 seconds while turning the ignition key on.The light also might be on to indicate more than for routine service. If that's the case then you might find that the above procedure won't work. You'll need to take your car to a reputable Acura service center where they'll plug an OBD, automotive diagnostic meter in that will be able to read specific engine codes (explaining what that light means).

I don't know if it is the same, but on my 1997 Acura integra there is a little button you just push under the dash by the steering column to turn off that light.

not sure if this will work for you but, worth a shot. 1) Turn they key to the II position2) Turn the key to the off position, and push and hold in the odometer reset button3) Turn they key back to the II position, while still holding the button.4) After about 10-15 seconds, the light should go off. hope it works
