The b series doesnt come vtec. You will need to find a head from a b16 or 18. The combo of the b20 bottom end and the vtec head will offers alot of torque and highvtec revs.

the B20 is cheaper than the B18C5( Type-R) if you have the money get the Type-R, but if not go with the B20 you can still get good power gain with mods

It depends on what your budget is and what you are gonna do to the motor or keep it stock. In stock form obviously the type r is better. But with the right mods you can make a b20 vtec (crvtec) just as fast or faster. The frank motor combos put out good numbers if done right but MUST be done right for them to last. When doing these type of combos: crvtec (b20 block, any vtec b series head), lsvtec ( b18b or a, any vtec b series head), or the ultimate one k20 head k24 block. First get yourself a set budget on what your gonna pay for the motor. Then find a GOOD used one and the misc. stuff you will need. But you can make any of them motors fast if you put the right mods and money into them.

I would say the Type-R motor is better, but the B20/VTEC is cheaper. On the downfall, B20 parts are limited rather then the B18C5. Of course the B18C5 is faster and has a higher redline than the B20. So if you can find a decent Type-R motor for a good price, go for it and you wont regret. P.S. louzerz dont be an idiot. Some B series motors come VTEC. B18C1, which is the GS-R motor comes VTEC, B18C5 from the Type-R, B16, B20, and you can covert it into a VTEC.

i would go wit the type r...cus if u get a b20 vtec it will need some internal work done cus a stock b20 is not meant to rev up to 8000 rpm u will probably break a rod also the engine is not well balance like the type r and u would just spend more money for a good setup
